Red Rising (Red Rising Series Book 1)
I recently finished reading Red Rising, the first book in the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown, and I can confidently say that it is one of the best books I have read in a long time. This dystopian science fiction novel gripped me from the very first page and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
Set on a colonized Mars, the story follows Darrow, a member of the lowest caste of society known as the Reds. Darrow’s world is turned upside down when he discovers that the surface of Mars is actually habitable and that the Reds have been living in poverty and ignorance while the other colors, higher castes, have been thriving. Darrow is then recruited by a rebel group, the Sons of Ares, to infiltrate the Golds, the ruling class, and bring them down from within.
One of the things I loved most about this book was the world-building. The author seamlessly weaves together elements of Greek and Roman mythology to create a complex and intriguing society on Mars. The descriptions of the different castes and their roles in society are vivid and well-developed, making it easy to immerse oneself in this fantastic world.
The characters in this book are also incredibly well-developed and memorable. Darrow is a flawed but relatable protagonist who is driven by his desire for justice and revenge. The friendships and alliances he forms along the way add another layer to the story and make for a compelling read.
The plot of Red Rising is fast-paced and action-packed. There are twists and turns throughout the book that kept me guessing and wanting more. The fight scenes are intense and well-written, and I found myself holding my breath during some of the more dramatic moments.
Overall, I highly recommend Red Rising to fans of dystopian and science fiction novels. It is a thrilling, thought-provoking, and addictive read that will leave you eager to pick up the next book in the series. I can’t wait to continue Darrow’s journey in the rest of the Red Rising series. Pierce Brown has truly created a captivating world and story with this book, and I cannot recommend it enough.
